4 out of 5 stars Timothy the Tool Man   April 13, 2008
I gave it a 4 star review because the 1/4" collet was defective when I first used the router. The collet-router assembly was replaced and the new router worked just fine. There is nothing about the way it works that I can now fault. And I just love some of it's features.

2 out of 5 stars Nice router with a problem   March 28, 2008

I have been very pleased with this router for about 6 mo. It is smooth, powerful and I love the soft start. Well, honeymoon is over. The typical switch failure has bit me. I thought I could keep it clean and I wouldn't have the reported problems. No joy. Folks if you use this router in a table you WILL have a problem. Probably sooner rather than later. Now just replacing a switch may not be a problem for most, but for me it has caused me lost production, down time and shipping cost to repair facility. And now I wonder how soon it will fail again.
I am going to replace this router with another brand and relegate this one to handheld use only and at that as a back-up. I just don't trust it. I hope my issues help someone else make a decision.

5 out of 5 stars Great router   February 9, 2008
I grew up in a cabinet shop, my dad built custom cabinets for a living since the 50's. I really struggled while reading reviews but bought this one. Lots of power, feels good in your hands, glad to have it.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing Quality   January 6, 2008

6 complaints about this set:

1 - Manufacturing Quality - the baseplate on the plunge router had the screw heads stripped and I had to spent an hour with a screw extractor set removing them.

2 - Design Issue - the first time I depressed the lock release lever the spring popped off the stop block. I spent over an hour trying to get it back on, but the spring is just cut too short to engage the block. You can work around this, but the lever falls all the way down and you have to reach down by the spinning bit to grab it or try to hold it between two fingers.

3 - Design Issue - it takes two wrenches to tighten/release the collet. Come on Bosch, the rest of the world has moved to the one wrench solution. Plan on skinned knuckles when you insert/remove bits.

4 - Design Issue - in my opinion Bosch makes some of the worst cases of anyone. I had to fish the manual out of a sharp-edged slot, none of the piece stay in their slots and, well, it's just cheezy. Everytime I open it I cut my hands on the sharp edges.

5 - Design Issue - the fixed base has wood handles. That looks cool, and I love wood handles on hand tools, but *not* on power tools that jump and shake. The handles slip in your hands, even with gloves. Any sweat and you are asking for a disaster. A decent set of textured plastic (or heaven forbid vibration dampening gel) would be an improvement.

6 - Design Issue - the depth stop on the plung base wobbles. There is enough wobble that if you are making multiple passes the router bit depth will change enough to show. Not a big deal on hidden work like tennons, but a pain on pieces that show.

Performance wise, the router spins up fast, runs smoothly. Motor movement between the two basis is OK. Power switch is difficult to reach in a hurry. The dust collection is OK, but not as good as the Colt, which is nearly dust free.

Overall, I would not buy another one.
