I BOUGHT THIS COMPRESSOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO AT THE HOME DEPOT. IT WAS ACTUALLY ALMOST AN IMPULSE BUY. I HAD SEEN IT THERE AND WENT HOME AND THOUGHT IT OVER AND WENT OUT THE NEXT NIGHT AND BOUGHT IT. I HAVE NO REAL NEED FOR AN AIR COMPRESSOR, BUT I LOVE QUALITY TOOLS, ESPECIALLY DE-WALT TOOLS. I USE IT TO BLOW DUST AND WOOD CHIPS, FILL UP TIRES ON VEHICLES, CARS, TRUCKS, BICYCLES, ETC. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, IT STARTED AND WITHIN ONE MINUTE, IT HAD COME UP TO FULL PRESSURE. IT RECOVERS VERY QUICKLY. I HAVE JUST ORDERED A FOUR OUNCE BOTTLE OF OIL TO CHANGE THE OIL IN THE PUMP. HAVING PURCHASED THE COMPRESSOR LOCALLY, I AVOIDED THE SHIPPING PROBLEMS AND DAMAGE ENOUNTERED BY OTHERS IN REVIEWS I HAVE READ. IN ALL, I LOVE THIS LITTLE COMPRESSOR AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE, EITHER A TRADSMAN OR JUST SOMEONE LIKE ME WHO APPRECIATES QUALITY TOOLS

I too have had the problem of the compressor not starting, tripping breakers, etc. This compressor has trouble starting and it has been getting progressively worse.
Dewalt service center sold me an "upgraded" on-board breaker. Didn't help at all. Dewalt service center was no help whatsoever.
I've looked at the high price of replacement parts to start swapping things out. But I don't think it's worth it. That money will be better spent on a different brand replacement compressor.
This is my only bad experience with a Dewalt branded product. But it's been so frustrating that I think they have lost me as a customer.
Excellent portable compressor February 9, 2007

The DEWALT D55155 compressor has performed flawlessly in the month and a half that I have had it. The portability and power has made it ideal to replace a much larger, noisier stationery compressor. The unit uses a supplied synthetic compressor oil. The overwhelming recommendations I received prior to purchase was to stay away from the oil-free type compressors.
Shipping from Amazon.com was by DHL (free). The compressor arrived in the manufacturer's carton with no damage to the carton or unit. A DEWALT Customer Service reply to an e-mail question about the D55155's country of origin stated that it is manufactured in the USA.

This compressor could be so good. It's got good capacity, very compact design, a well-placed carrying handle, the Emglo reputation, the DeWalt service to back it up. But! The first one I ordered from amazon came with a crushed air intake filter. But we all know UPS's propensity to destroy everything that comes their way. Since I live near a DeWalt service center, I drove over and they gave me a replacement filter free of charge. Tried to install it and <*?^$!!?> It would just barely fit between the pressure regulator housing and the motor that it screws into. Hmm. Maybe I just got a bad unit. Thanks to amazon's excellent return policy, they had UPS at my house the following day to pick up the compressor and _the_next_day_ a replacement showed up. Opened the box, same problem. If it wouldn't have been damaged in transit with UPS, it surely would have happened the first time I hit a good pothole on my way to some job with it in the trunk. Amazon chose not to try a third time and issued a refund. (Which I used on a Makita model - heavier, but quiet! and runs like a champ, see my review.) Chalk this up to bad design, yet I'm giving it two stars simply because such a good percentage of reviewers have had good experiences with this unit, maybe it was an older design that has been updated to save production costs, but >!**$?< created a compressor too big for its own britches.
Great Value for the Money. Powerful, small & quick. Almost Perfect ! December 16, 2006
I bought this unit in late November, and have used it for the past three weeks. I was a bit CONCERNED by all the comments about shipping damage, but the PRICE from Amazon couldn't be beat, and so I took the plunge and bought the unit, understanding I might have some shipping damage and hassle to contend with. Long story short, my expections were exceeded, both by AMAZON and by DEWALT.
On SPECS, I primarily wanted a unit strong enough to POWER an air hammer for occasional home-owner use. I have three cars, and I change tires seasonally on 2 of these cars in both the Spring & Fall. Along with this purchase I bought a 600FT-LB Air Hammer (IR2132G), and the Dewalt has proven to plenty of power (CFM) to wrench the bolts off my large SUV. Additionally, another important factor for me was SIZE. I have a small 2-car garage, and no room for a floor standing unit. This Dewalt sits high on a shelf out of the way, and I can just turn it on when I need it. Also, this unit is small enough to be PORTABLE, and if I need to take it, it's easy to move and fit into the back of my SUV with a bunch of other tools.
On QUALITY, I was way concerned that my unit would arrive damaged, and I would get caught up in a SHIPPING NIGHTMARE where I would bounce between Amazon Customer Service and the Carrier sending back multiple Dead-On-Arrival compressors. Thankfully, this DID NOT happen. My unit WAS DAMAGED upon delivery, but nothing I couldn't live with. Issue #1 was the metal electrical cord wrapping PIN was BENT during shipping, which also cracked the nice yellow paint job, where the PIN was welded to the frame protecting the regulator components. I didn't care, it still works fine. Issue #2 was that the AIR FILTER housing arrived damaged. This is cheap plastic cylinder that should be shipped disconnected from the unit but wasn't. The Air Filter housing cracked and was unusable until I plastic-welded it back together with two-part epoxy. I have uploaded customer images documenting these problems. There were no other quality problems, and the unit HAD NO LEAKS. After powering it up, it would maintain pressure without any loss of air.
On PACKAGING & SHIPPING, this was my only complaint, and the reason I couldn't give this product 5 Stars. The box this unit is packed in is too flimsy, and DOES NOT protect the unit from shipping damage. Thankfully, my damage was relatively minor. See my customer pics on the packaging. I was able to justify the shipping risk by the unbelievably aggressive pricing. Easily $100 less than anything else comparable locally for pickup.
On SERVICE... WOW!! Amazon exceeded my expections. I wanted to save money on shipping and chose the FREE Super Saver shipping. I think Amazon, perhaps knowing the shipping damage problems, upgraded my shipping to 2 Day Air (without my prompting), and I received the unit on a Tuesday, after only ordering it Saturday evening. Thank You Amazon !
4 Stars.. Powerful, small, cheap, and minimal hassle.
