Decent Decanter with a flaw or two July 7, 2008 I have one of these for my Mr. Coffee (Mr. Coffee Black and Stainless Steel 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker) and it does a decent job. It pours without dribbles and holds a nice 12-cup portion of coffee. It pretty much does what it is supposed to.
I do have some quibbles though.
The lid comes off quite easily, and I lost it one time (in the nearby garbage bag) because of that design issue. Luckily, the coffee decants just as well without the lid. Better even...it must just be there to retain heat.
As noted by other reviewers, the bigger design flaw however is the fact that liquid can get trapped between the glass of the decanter and the top plastic ring that the handle attaches to and includes the pouring spout. Even with thorough cleaning, I often get dribbles of liquid rolling down the outside of the decanter. It drips on the countertop when I am filling the coffee maker. Sometimes it is clear but other times it is murky and looks like old coffee -- not very appetizing. I just hope none of this liquid is getting into the coffee, but I think that it doesn't. If you are aware of the issue you can test it before pouring and if needed, hold a paper towel or sponge at the seam of plastic and glass to catch any drops.
Otherwise, it works as it should. The wide opening allows for easy interior cleaning, even with large hands like mine. I've had mine for about a year and have not broken it during cleaning.
Looks Good, but seems cheap April 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had to buy the replacement because the original cracked after 15-20 uses. The lid hinge is also cheap, and won't last long I don' think.
Looks good though. :/
defective in manufacturing April 18, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered this replacement because the original one would leak from the black piece, water gets trapped in between the glass & the black top piece (not lid) and drips down the side after turning right side up after filling water tank. This replacement does the same thing so I believe it to be a manufacture flaw. This is the only replacement I have found to fit my coffee maker:(
Mr.Coffee Decanter December 21, 2007 Product arrived promptly and was well packaged and undamaged. Worked perfectly as a replacement.
Agree w/others...Very fragile! November 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with the other posters. The original decanter cracked after just a few months of use. We were very careful with it; never banged it on anything or washed in extreme hot or cold water. One day I noticed coffee leaking from the bottom while it was brewing--thought it was just something on the machine itself. Happened again the next day & that's when I saw the crack. Was so surprised & disappointed. This coffee machine cost us $50! We've had cheaper ones that have lasted to this day (we just wanted a nicer looking one). I'd think twice before buying this version (FT Series)
