Great Tool for Home Use July 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This handy little tool has been great around the house. Fits almost everything we have including the hex screws on the fridge which was the most recent job it was used for. I gave this item 5 stars because of the price and overall performance. It could have been a bit better build quality but I didn't expect it to be considering the price. It works great and should last years if you don't abuse it. For working on machinery and such I would most likely use standard sockets of better quality, but that's just my opinion.
Replaces expensive special tool July 22, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used the Gator Grip to hold the nut on the inside of a motorcycle front fork tube. The "nut" is oval shaped with two flattened edges... not your average nut. I inserted the Gator Grip down the tube with my longest 1/4 inch extensions and though I could not see the nut, it allowed me to hold it so that I could remove the inner workings of the fork with ease.
I feel that if it works for that oval shaped nut it will work for any nut up to the dimensions of the tool or any nut that is deformed through misuse. This was a huge help to my restoration project.
Works great June 12, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not a pro and I'm not handy at all. This tool comes replaces an entire socket set. I'm never missing a size and save much time with this tool. Highly recommended.
A Gadget -- Not a Serious Tool April 2, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
As other reviewers have noted, the Gator Grip Socket is for very light duty use. Apply any pressure whatsoever to the ratchet handle and the Gator Grip slips off the bolt head, damaging itself in the process. I had used mine only 10 minutes before several of the pins were jammed up inside the mechanism, and they haven't functioned properly since. The idea is clever, but in reality the geometry and physics just don't cooperate for this to be that useful or reliable of a tool.
I highly recommend the Gator-Grip...even to professionals June 7, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The GatorGrip is a tool almost everyone can find useful. For those with few tools(ie. a screwdriver and a pair of pliers) it can serve as a decent replacement for a basic socket set and let you tackle the majority of fasteners around the house. If you're the type that uses pliers to put a bed together you need to get a GatorGrip. For those with a complete set of tools, from hobbyists and do-it-yourselfers to professional mechanics, the GatorGrip is a great addition to your toolbox. It's useful as a one-size-fits-all socket for quick jobs and great at removing rusted/damaged fasteners. A week after getting the GatorGrip I used it to remove a severely damaged drain plug. It was able to grip the plug even though half of the head was gone and didn't slip or break even with a breaker bar attached. Dirt and grime can cause some pins to stick occasionally but the GatorGrip is suprisingly tough.
I have to address the negative review titled "Gator Strip" that says: "I've seen these in retail stores that have a sample display. I went to try it out and here's my findings: The Gator Grip had stripped all the nuts and bolts on the display. So I really wasn't able to try it with an unstripped nut."
Of course the sample nuts and bolts were stripped - the purpose of the display is to show how the GatorGrip works on even stripped and damaged fasteners. The samples on the display are examples of common nut and bolt damage. The GatorGrip didn't strip them.
