Neither good nor bad November 29, 2008 It's faily simple to assemble and not that expensive, but the parts don't fit together snugly and the lid's hinges are very easy to damage during assembly. I wouldn't say that it's a quality product, but it's not bad if you're looking for a mediocre patio container for a low price.
Fantastic!!! Much improved over other older versions!!! October 23, 2008 A few years ago we bought a Rubbermaid chest like this one, but it was a different model. It was the same price, and heavier due to pressboard shelf that was just awful. It was also flimsy, and wobbled, even once set up... this unit is NOTHING like that and is MUCH IMPROVED! This review contrasts our prior experience with this new model.
Pro: -Very sturdy, does not wobble once built -Lighter, in part due to improved metal shelves -Metal shelves (2) are a huge improvement over wooden (pressboard ones): 1) The metal shelves are less likely to bend and warp like our wooden one 2) The metal spans the entire width (like 18" or so versus about 5" with wood) yet is a mesh, so you can see through it when used as a shelf 3) The shelves double as dividers, which is super handy! -Comes with a mesh net made from "bungee" material for trapping awkward items -You can buy hooks, baskets, and additional shelves. Although an extra cost, allows for some customization which is handy -Fast assembly, about 1 hour the first time, 30 minutes the second time, and I did it without tools except a philips screwdriver, although a small hammer is helpful -Innovative hinge design ensures a smooth swing every time... it just pops in place (nice!) -Roomy and nice looking -Has not yet faded (purchased June 2008, this review late October 2008)
Con: -Attaching the mesh requires screws, and they easily strip the soft plastic that you are screwing into... you've been warned! -They say you can sit on it, but we don't recommend that if you weigh more than say 150 pounds
Bottom line: We liked it so much that we bought a second one.
Great Winter Yard Storage, Dual use for Garden Spring/Summer/Fall October 19, 2008 Very easy to assemble, excellent volume and the very best value to include shipping right here at Amazon. Exact box at other sites were priced radically higher!! We are short in stature and for seating it will work best for taller 5'10" and above.
Not happy at all. August 5, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We bought this container to house all of our roof-top items when they are not in use. It sounds like the perfect item - large, sturdy, lockable, weatherproof. But the funny thing is, not all the tabs that interlock actually do. After it was all set up, we went to move it and the bottom just fell right out. What good is a locking deck box that just falls apart? It claims to be waterproof - I went to check on the roof after a big rain storm and when I lifted the lid to add to the box, the water just ran down the box and inside, covering the contents with water. The interlocking parts don't always lock, and I am very dissapointed with this Rubbermaid product - I thought for sure this would be a name I could count on. I even took the thing apart and tried a second time. Had a buddy do it a third time (in case I wasn't "getting it") with no luck.
I wouldn't recommend it - maybe I simply just got a defective product. Re-packaging the thing is a nightmare. Plan ahead big time on this one, and set your personal expectations slightly lower.
Great item - easy to put together! August 5, 2008 I don't have outside storage for things, and this makes life a lot easier. It was very easy to assemble - only took a few minutes.
