Amazon.com Review Tired of making do with your wet/dry shop vacuum? We don't blame you. Step up to this JDS collection system make all the sawdust you want. After the initial setup (which is a little tedious but not taxing), it's all but maintenance-free; just empty the bag when it's full. This unit moves 1,250 cubic feet of air every minute - that's equivalent to exchanging all the air in a room that's 12 by 13 feet with 8-foot ceilings in 60 seconds. That's pretty impressive. The top bag filters particles down to 1 micron - one millionth of a meter - keeping your shop air clean and clear. On the bottom is a replaceable clear plastic bag that lets you see exactly how much is in your collector, and we like the choice of either throwing the bag away with the contents or emptying it out and reusing it. It's got a 42-gallon capacity, so unless you're making chips eight hours a day, it likely won't need emptying too often. We'd recommend not letting it get full, though, because 42 gallons of sawdust is no picnic to lift. The motor is wired for 110-volt service, a standard household outlet, but it's easily rewired for 220 volts, depending on your shop setup. It's got an abundance of power for running one tool at a time, even a planer, but it's probably not sufficient for more than that. The casters make the unit really mobile, so you can roll it around your shop and connect it to whatever tool you're using, but the casters could be beefier, we thought. We think you'll find, though, that after you use this collector for a while, you'll want to build a system with blast gates and a remote for the unit. It's a natural progression for tool hounds. The woodworker who finally ditches the shop vacuum and brings in this JDS collector will wonder why s/he didn't do it sooner. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

JDS DUST-FORCE 1-1/2 HP DUST COLLECTOR June 25, 2008 Received the unit in good condition. It was easy enough to set up and does a terrific job. I am completely satisfied with the purchase.
Arrived Slightly Bent. May 23, 2008 The frame that holds the motor arrived slightly bent from shipping, but was easily fix with a pair of pliers.
Instead of using two supports to hold up the filter bag they should have used three for better stability. The bag is a bit wobbly.
It seems like typical quality and construction that you get from imports these days and only rates as an average product, hence three stars.
JDS Dustforce May 15, 2008 As with many other reviews the JDS 141040 goes together easily and performs exactly the job it's suppose to...keeping my shop free of dust. It does draw a lot of power on startup and a dedicated line is advised. Also as with many other reviews, the packaging and shipping leaves much to be desired. The flimsy box had been ripped opened, the styrofoam packing destroyed and I was amazed nothing was missing. A few parts had been bent but were simply "adjusted" with judicious use of a rubber mallet and a 2X4. JDS really needs to re-think the packing method. Product rating 5/5. Packing rating 0/5. I guess you get what you pay for... the shipping was free.
Just A Pleasure March 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received my JDS 1.5 HP dust collector this week. I already own a small Delta 600 cfm machine but it would not handle all the requirements for my small shop, given the layout. After checking a few possibilities, I settled on the JDS because a 1250 cfm machine at this price was a dream. The other reviews were also very helpful in my decision.
It was a pleasure to assemble (really), the fit and finish is excellent and the threaded holes for the bolts are REALLY threaded, not painted over and can be hand tightened. And, there was not a single washer or screw in the package, just the bolts and just as advertised. It went together quickly and flawlessly. The folks at JDS really have thought long and hard about ease of assembly. Oh yeah, use a inch nut driver and throw away their flimsy open end wrench.
A previous reviewer suggested using duct tape to secure the clear, bottom bag during assembly. WOW, that was a life-saver! Not blessed with 4-6 arms, the bag (with the duct tape) went on first try. Amazingly easy.
Noise - not bad, certainly not much more than my 1 hp Delta.
I recommend adding a 20 amp dedicated circuit. Now, if I can find a 20 amp remote switch that gets good reviews, life will be very good. The only downer in the whole process was that annoying electro-statically charged Styrofoam that was used as packing. When I came in from my shop, my wife had a great laugh at the Styrofoam in my hair and stuck to my clothes.
Summary - excellent product, great price. Get one!
JDS Dust Force January 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have looked at dust collectors at the big box stores. The wood working magazines all have reviewed dust collector's pros and cons. I have tried dust collection with my trusty Sears vacuum - it works to a point. I was not prepared for how much better a 'real' dust collector works. If you have ever planed some rough stock w/ a shop vac, even w/ some sort of container between the tool and the vac you know it soon fills and clogs. Now the JDS was delivered to my door, cheaper and more conveniently than if I had purchased the product from a local big box store or a Wood Working store. It was easy to assemble. In 25 minutes from unpacking to trash removal - I had a real dust collector ready for action. The performance is amazing. It is more quiet than other collectors I have seen in action. Sucking the dust and chips from a table saw is not easy w/ all of the openings for tilt and height adjustment. The JDS removes about 99% of all dust and chips from my Delta table saw. There is always some wood that escapes the gaurd area - even this was dramatically reduced. Using my planer was a dream - all the chips were pulled away and my jointer had all the chips pulled out of the cracks and crevices that my shop vac left behind. And compared to a shop vac that is a help - this beast is so quiet and efficient that my only complaint is that I didn't buy one before.
