3 out of 5 stars Decent dust collector, but not flawless.   May 5, 2008
I thought I already reviewed this. If so, sorry for the repetition, but Amazon just asked me to write a review.

This collector works well but has a couple minor design flaws. Watch the hooks that hold up the dust collection bag. They are sharply pointed and I've pierced my fingers more than once putting a new bag on. The hose that connects between the motor and the collector just barely fits. You'll need to apply elbow grease to get this clamped on.

The packaging is also very messy. It's that styrofoam that easily disintegrates and scatters all over the work area. It does manage to get the unit to you without incident however, so it's only an inconvenience. But if you ever need to return the unit, the packaging may be useless.

The quick disconnect attachments I have on the existing hoses in my shop, do not fit this unit, so you'll have to invest in a small network of blast gates instead - unless JDS makes their own disconnect adapters. Jet's don't fit. I homerun the three devises to the unit and pop on the one I'm using at the time. If you have a network of hoses all set up, this may not be an issue.

Also, one of the bags that came with the unit split on the seem shortly after I started using the collector. Talk about a mess... The bags provided by Jet for their units are seemingly better made.

I bought this as a second collector to service half the machines in my shop. My other collector is the Jet. Apart from an easier to use on/off switch and the 1 micron (vs Jet's 2 micron) cannister, there's little difference between these units. Shop price...

5 out of 5 stars Awesome collecter.   January 27, 2008
Bought this unit about two years ago on Amazon. Easy to use I used 4 inch outdoor drain lines with blast gates from Rockler. Works great and cut down on the dust I breathe. I compbined this with a Jet overhead hanging unit. This reduces table saw dust by about 90% and probably does the same for my drum sander with about 40 feet of pipe running to it.

5 out of 5 stars None better for the price   May 26, 2007

There were no other dust collectors on the market with canisters that filter down to 1 micron at the time I ordered this. Delta's and Jet's canister models go down to only 2 microns for the same price or more. In my use of the JDS so far it has simply been wonderful. Changing out the lower bag is a little bit of a hassle, but I've learned to just temporarily masking-tape the bag to the housing before I get the band clamp secured.

My one bit of advice would be to order this direct from JDS rather than Amazon. My brother-in-law and I both ordered this model from Amazon, and they shipped by UPS. Both of us had our motors damaged due to the shipping. The two boxes this comes in are huge and a little bit heavier than the max that UPS normally allows...they just don't know how to take care of boxes like this. JDS customer service was absolutely wonderful to deal with and helped me know how to get this resolved through Amazon. JDS indicated that when customers order directly from them, they ship the unit by motor freight strapped to pallets. That keeps everything upright and protected.

But the five-star rating remains...because it reflects the true quality of this dust collector.

5 out of 5 stars JDS dust collector   July 28, 2006

JDS makes some top notch products for dust control. The collector is definitely worth the price. It is well packed and goes together easily with the clear directions and pictures. The best part is it works, and works very well. I would say I'm getting 20 % more suction power and none of the dust escapes the bag or cannister. I wish I had seen this machine before I bought another one with the regular bags you see, I'll save that one for chips and the JDS for sanding. This is a quality product. For once you're getting something well made.

Relatively quiet and very efficient. Takes a bit to get it installed properly, but really keeps the saw dust to a bare minimum. I suggest grounding it for safety reasons.
