The main improvement over the last generation is the battery source: lithium-ion. There are so many reasons to applaud. Lithium holds its charge up to six times longer in storage than nickel-cadmium batteries, so it's ready when you are. Remember the disappointment when you were ready and your battery was low? That won't happen with this one. It's got a battery fuel gauge that tells you how much life is left before a recharge, so you won't be caught without your Dremel, and if you choose to keep it on its charger, you won't cause memory and shorten the charge capacity. This tool is way more versatile than I originally thought. It is well-balanced and remarkably easy to use. The battery charges quickly. Everything about this tool makes it a must-have. I've always thought it would great to own a Dremel, and with all the add-ons (wire brushes, polishers, cutters, grinders, sanders, etc) I'm sure I'll never rue the day I bought it.
Slot exhaust system for removal September 4, 2008
I used the Dremel 10.8 V Lithium ion cordless with 420 cutting disk to slot old exhaust connections when the underlying pipe (or muffler) has to be saved. Did a great job! See more at www.stepbystepvolvo.com.

Excellent Dremel. After owning powered and battery operated ones, this Dremel works best. No cords, long lasting battery. Excellent choice.

I have been using a Dremel tool for a long time, the old ones had great ball bearings and powerful motors. Today, both the cordless nad the corded units are mass producted and the quality is fair at best. I have gone thru three of these 10.8 volt cordless. As soon as it heats up during normal use, it shuts off or starts to smoke. Once they smoke they have had it! Buy a new one. Customer service is great, but the tools are not what they use to be.

This Dremel cordless rotary tool is great. Bought it for craft and hobby work but found out right away that it is more than a craft tool. Used it to cut the frame on my son's car for a hitch installation. Get one you will love it.
