This style has a hollow back (its cross-section would have the shape of an umbrella), instead of being solid (i.e., with a mushroom-shaped cross-section), reducing its cost without sacrificing appearance. The only knock is that with the hollow back, it's possible to get a finger caught back there, which can be very painful as the cabinet door swings farther open! For those less dense than me, though, this is a very cleanly designed knob, with a crisp-looking polished finish. Also available from the manufacturer in several other finishes (including polished brass, antique brass and brushed brass or chrome.)
