The classic Lufkin "Red End" X46X. This one has the extension slides on both ends of the rule. When most carpenters wore overalls and knew how to use a handsaw, this is the kind of rule everyone carried. Most home center visitors probably cannot understand why anyone would go to the trouble to unfold a six foot long wooden rule when a tape is so much faster. But have you ever tried to fit a shelf in a closet or take any other inside measure with a tape? No match for this rule. Unfold it to the longest length possible, then extend the slide, add the length and you have a measurement you can count on. It's too bad more people do not know what these folding rules are used for. There is so much they do better than tape measures.
