Excellent Tape Measure August 4, 2008 I bought this for the holster (which works very well) but the whole tape is a well made and accurate tool. The tool pops out into my hand whenever I want it and I am able to make very accurate measurements (inside and outside) with amazing ease. As an added plus, how could you pass up any tool with this name?
Works well! May 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Keep in mind I bought this on some deal a while back where it was like a couple bucks. But I must say it's a nice tape. I especially like how you can slide the end so that you can take accuracy inner / outer measurements. The yellow color makes it easy to spot too.

Johnson Level 916 16-Foot Big Johnson Power Tape
I concur with what most of the reviews have said which is why I purchased this tape, however; after less than half a years time and use the tape measure itself is bending at the hook. Sure, the hook is strong but if the material used to make the tape itself isn't equally strong, once again you have a poor product. Don't know if there's any warranty on this but it hasn't shown itself to be equal to the reviews and is a disappointment. I only use this in my furniture work so it really isn't a lot of stress on the tape.
Big Johnson Tape February 17, 2008 Having a plastic tip rather then a metal one allows for it to stay straight when dropped. While traditional clips eventually fall off when the screw that holds them on strips out, the big johnson has a seperate belt clip that it snaps on to. After prolonged use it will start to wear and not stay seated in the clip as well. It is still my opinion it is still a supierior attachment.
No such thing as too many tape measures December 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Over the years, I've bought dozens of brands, models and lengths of measuring tapes. Did I need to buy this one? Certainly not BUT it is very well made and has a few really good features that most of the others do not offer.
First, it is slimmer than many tape measures but the tape itself is not nearly as wide as most; it's pretty flexible and because of that and it's narrower width, the tape itself tends to be a bit floppy and has little standout. That's not why I like it and carry it with me but it is why I did not award it the 5th star.
The tape moves smoothly in and out and retracts very nicely without whacking you on the fingers or hand. It's bright yellow and the markings are clear and very easy to read.
The lock is large with finger detents, rocks forward and backwards with a distinct but subtle click and sits right on the top of the tape where it's very easy to manipulate. But, it doesn't protrude out enough to where it interferes with use.
The plastic belt clip is excellent! Quite strong, not bulky or awkward, and it offers very easy removal/replacement of the measuring tape. Yet, the tape measure is held secure and it will swivel freely in the belt clip as you need to move around wearing it.
There's a little flip out leg - rather ingenious - recessed on the back of the tape housing that when flipped down, tells you the exact overall length of the tape measure's body with that leg extended for very easy and accurate inside measurements. It happens to be an exact inch measurement - in this case 4" - so there are no fractions to fuss with. In conjunction with this feature, where the yellow tape itself enters/exits the body, there's a small but visible red plastic frame marker that permits very easy read of the tape right at the body so that you can then add the overall inch measure - in this case 4" - to whatever you read at that marker. Really quite nifty and efficient to have if you have a lot of inside moldings and shelves to measure for. It eliminates converting fractions to common denominators so as to add the two in your head or the bending of the tape into corners, trying to guess-timate the exact length. This feature reminds me of the "story sticks" that many carpenters made and used years ago for quick accurate inside measurements.
Perhaps the most innovative feature is the fully readable end of the tape - no metal clip to obscure the first 3/8" or so. It has a clear plastic clip with a visisble red and black plastic end that slides inward for inside measurements and slides outward for outside measurements. I can clearly read the entire tape, starting from zero to the very first 1/16" and beyond.
It's well made and comes from England. That alone is a very refreshing move away from where most of the brand name measuring tapes are now made or assembled.
You simply cannot go wrong buying one of these tape measures, no matter how many others you already have. From a sheer value standpoint, it's much better than any tool bargain I've come across in recent months.
