Excellent for use when running at night November 11, 2008 I bought this because I wanted to go running at night and didn't like holding the flashlight to avoid hitting low branches or potholes, and I also didn't want anything that would be too bulky.
This headlamp is very small and light. The light is great for running, as it puts out a soft spot of light good enough to see stuff at 20-30 feet in the dark and the tiny light in the front and the single AAA battery compartment in the back are very light. They don't bounce when I run or jump. Also in the back are two blue LEDs that act as safety lights.
My favorite part is that it uses special circuitry to regulate/amplify the battery power, so you can put a nearly-dead battery in this thing and get great light. Also, since it's only 1 battery, it's light and cheap to use. Not like 3 AAAs are all that heavy, but you notice the difference.
For safety, it's got the two blue LEDs on the back. I thought they should be red, like car taillights, but this isn't a car and the blue is actually more eye-catching.
The thing I don't like is the switch. It works, but the only way you know it works is by seeing the light on or off. It could use a tactile "click". Otherwise, you just push on the bump in the middle of the battery compartment & it turns on. Sometimes, when I set it down it'll turn on by itself, so I have to set it down so that the button isn't lying downward.
There's also only the one mode. On. No flashing mode or bright levels.
I have a large head, so it's a bit snug, even after letting it all out. The headband also opens with velcro, so it can be fitted around hat bands or through loops or holes in your helmet. Otherwise, it's just an elastic band about a half-inch wide.
Overall, I've had it for about two weeks and it's great for use when running at night.
A little to much on the blue color for the main lamp February 25, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Hi the unit is great for it's light weight- lots of light for it's small size- using only one aaa battery - adjustment for angle is good- blue rear leds ok- nice pouch- light a little too blue for me.
