For the size and price, you can't beat it! November 25, 2008 If I hadn't already purchased the Pelican 4000 KingLite, I might not have been so impressed by this Garrity spotlight. But, I found out that for the price and weight, the Garrity is a winner. Now, it's NOT a 10 million candlepower spotlight, but it nicely illuminates some objects up to about 50+ feet. But don't buy this Garrity for use as a "flashlight" because you'll be diappointed. That's not what it's configured for. It's made to light up objects at a distance. My best guess (though I didn't have a tape measure), is that it 'adequately' lit-up an object around 50 feet away. And with just 4 AA batteries, it's really lightweight. I previously bought the Pelican 4000, which takes 8D cell (yes 8!) batteries, and it's HEAVY! And as for the illumination characteristics of the Pelcian King Lite (which costs in the $60-to-$80+ range), this Garrity...at one-quarter the price, and one-tenth the weight...is the better choice. Now, I 'do' want to mention that the Pelican claims that it will penetrate 'murk' and 'fog', etc., and maybe that's true. I never had a chance to test that characteristic. But for clear weather, the luxeon LED of the Garrity is a better choice than the Krypton bulb of the Pelican 4000 KingLite. (And the Pelican's bulb has to be replaced after 30 hours of use.)
nice light for the money October 21, 2008 This little spotlight is very light and throws a nice compact beam that is quite bright! It uses 4AA batteries that for me is a plus. Medium duty, switch seems a little light to the touch but all in all I am very happy with the light!
