The First Alert SCO5CN carbon monoxide and smoke alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The alarm uses photoelectric smoke sensing technology which is environmentally friendlier and which reduces nuisance alarms, making it ideal for cooking areas. It is also great for sensing slow smoldering fires quickly. The permanent sensors last the lifetime of the alarm. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The alarm uses different 85-decibel horns and lights depending on whether it's alerting you to smoke or carbon monoxide. A low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. I like the fact that the CO detector/Smoke alarm are combined. I used to have them in the house separately. They work great, easy to install.

Great Combo Alarm November 25, 2008
I have a kitchen in my law office and it has a gas range in it. So I wanted an alarm that would not only detect smoke but also carbon monoxide (wanted to kill 2 birds with 1 alarm so to speak). This unit has been perfect, was reasonably priced and works fine. Makes me sleep better at night. Would buy again if needed

I thought I got a great deal on this combo item, but it only worked for three months before failing. I guess when it comes to my family's safety I shouldn't be so concerned with the best price and just buy an item like this from a local store that I can return it to with no problems.

These were bought to replace others. Never had any problems. Combo preferred over buying two units for smoke and carbon monoxide.
