Great tool for the money November 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had two tile jobs to do, a shower and a fireplace surround, and I didn't want to rent a saw because I wanted to be able to take my time. After lots of looking, this saw looked like the best option in the "low priced DIY" category. Having completed both jobs now (and one other small job in our kitchen because I was on a roll), I can confirm that the positive reviews for this saw are justified.
I started with the shower, which was done with a standard ceramic tile. The saw cut through the tile like butter. Adjusting the rip fence was a somewhat finicky job but doable and, like another reviewer, I initially had problems with each cut chipping at the end. However, I quickly determined that I could avoid the chipping by "notching" the tail end of the cut and then completing the cut from the other end.
Other reviewers have noted that this is a loud saw, which I can also confirm. The first day, I was thinking, "This thing doesn't seem THAT loud." but that night my ears were ringing and I decided to wear hearing protection from then on.
The fireplace surround used porcelain tile. Cutting these went a little slower but, frankly, that was somewhat of an advantage for me because the layout of the tile was on the diagonal and required a lot of unique freehand cuts which would have been kind of scary if the saw cut too quickly.
By the end of the second (and later, third) job, I was very satisfied with this tool. This saw doesn't claim to be a professional saw and it's not. However, as a DIY saw you are getting everything you paid for and maybe a little more.
Exactly what I needed September 20, 2008 The saw arrived on time and was assembled as per the directions with no problems. In use, the saw worked just fine, I used it for cutting 2" tiles for the kitchen backsplash and it cut all tiles with no problem. The fence bows up a little when it is tightened down, but that is not a problem. This is not an industrial saw and it should not be expected to perform like one. It did not bogged down in use, just use a slow steady feed rate. I would buy this saw again and recommend it for the home DIYer.
Nice little tile saw June 18, 2008 For a first time user, I think this saw is great for the price and for the capacity. It is easy to put together. The fence was reasonable parallel to the fence right out of the box. I had to build an additional fence to cut 16x16 tile. So, I think this saw is good for smaller tile job.
Great (but slow) for the money April 28, 2008 Everyone that has previously reviewed this saw has covered the bases (both good and bad).
Cleaning: When I was cutting 12x12x1/2 slate, I had to refill the reservior and clean the workspace every 2 or 3 cuts. I also had to clean the entire thing every 5-8 cuts. And yes, use it outside...but who would really want to use a wet saw in a nice indoor application? :)
Motor: I only bound it up 2 or 3 times over 40 cuts, but I know as a first-timer I was definately not trying to rush the job. Other than that, it cut clean and true.
Price: I borrowed this saw from a friend to do my slate job, but I think it is perfect for a DIYer, so I'm buying one for myself. For a small job, or a take-your-time DIY person, this is a great saw. I'd hate to rent a bigger saw, knowing I was paying by the hour I would probably screw up more cuts than I already did on my own!
A DIY Dream!!! April 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I couldn't be happier with this little saw - best bang for the buck by far. It cuts quite nicely and is not too messy (for a tile saw of course). I love the small size and the light weight - it really stores nicely out of the way between projects. It might not be a "pro" level saw but everyone who has seen my results with it would swear that the job was professionally done. Just use it like you should, take your time, and it will not dissapoint. If you are doing a remodeling project or 2 or 3, then don't hesitate to buy this saw.
