Product Description Our portable planers have been so popular that we couldn't resist giving our customers just one more option. For this, we wanted a portable planer that was lighter to carry around and finished cuts faster, but didn't lack muscle or design quality. The result was the Model G0505. This new 12-1/2" planer features a 2 HP motor, 10,000 RPM cutterhead, 32 FPM feed rate, top-mounted return rollers and extra large table extensions. Also, other little things like 1/8" thick knives (instead of the 1/16" thick knives on most portables) are proof that this dynamo will rule the jobsite for years!

Worked Great August 12, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
It was an absolute joy to use for the week or so that it worked. Quiet, powerful, smooth-cutting - in general did an excellent job, though I didn't ask too much of it at first. But then a week or so after unpacking it it simply didn't turn on in the morning, and a few weeks of dealing with customer service later - I got a replacement part, installed it, nothing changed - I had wasted so much time and energy that I had to hand out the money for a new planer. I had a job that couldn't be held up any longer by a useless planer. I assume that this was a total fluke, and that the tool is in general quite solid and reliable, but I'm still quite frustrated by the experience. In the meantime, my new Dewalt planer, which cost 150 dollars more or so, is louder, uglier, messier, bulkier, and less pleasant to use and have around the shop. But so far, it's turned on every time I've flicked the switch, so I can't really complain.
Worth every penny January 22, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Even though this was not an expensive planer it performs like one. After clearing a bunch of Cherry from my property I had it cut to 5/4 and it's been stickered and drying for four years. It was time to start making things with it. My brother in law raved about his Grizzly so I bought mine. What a good investment. I was a little concerned it only had two knives instead of three but soon found out that was not a problem at all. This machine does the job without even hesitating. It quickly has become my favorite shop tool.
Disappointed January 15, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is my first Grizzly power tool, which I purchased based on the rave reviews. Out of the box, I tried to plane twelve-inch maple wide for shelving. The first few passes using small incremental cuts resulted in the wood jamming, getting marred with paint and grease, and a few tear-outs. Not a good start.
The jamming was caused by poor manufacturing. In the outfeed of the unit, there are two metal studs that seem to hold the board down as it exits. On my planer, one of these studs was 1/16" longer than the other, causing the jams and cutting into the wood. Had to file the stud down just to get the wood to pass through. I still have problems with the wood getting stained with green paint and gouges.
Not sure what to think of Grizzly power tools. I should have payed more for a better unit, probably not a Grizzly.
First Timer! January 10, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've wanted a planer for a while as I have a bit of oak and poplar barnwood to work up, and hopefully make something nice from it! After a major retailer messed up the craftsman order for their 12" planer, I began a new search, and glad I did. Ordering was a snap, and shipping was a breeze...only problem was having to meet semi truck app. 5 miles from home due to not so easy access. Planer up and running within 20 minutes, and am super pleased! Ran 60 BF of white oak first with great results. I'll be looking at Grizzly first when boss says I can have a new bandsaw. Give this one a hard look, and hopefully you will be pleased!
