Saved me April 13, 2008
The door of our Microwave broken - you couldn't get the door to open. I pulled the microwave out and found that Whirlpool used Torx Tamper screws on the cover - Torx screws with a little pin in the middle so that a normal Torx bit won't fit.
I ordered this set from Amazon, and was able to remove the cover from the microwave. I quickly found the problem, a small plastic tab broke, which was fixed with some epoxy.
I couldn't get the cover off without these bits, and they are not easy to find. Please keep in mind they use tamper proof screws for a reason - working around appliances can be dangerous to your health.
How much is a service call from your local appliance repairman? Even if I wasn't able to fix the broken piece, I easily found the part on line and it would be no problem to replace it.
