Drywall Jack Arrived as Advertised September 5, 2008 After a problem with shipping (UPS said the 1st unit was damaged and didn't even deliver it), the Platinum drywall jack arrived. The box was a bit beat up, but the inner carton was ok. All the parts were packed in bubble wrap and cardboard, and the drywall jack assembled and disassembled fairly easily by following the instructions. The steel frame was nicely welded and otherwise constructed. All the drywall jacks I looked at seemed to be about identical except for the color, so I bought on price.
Shipping about doubled the cost (it weighs ~100lbs), but even with the shipping, it was a lot less expensive than I could find a drywall jack locally without even considering sales tax.
gets the job done August 18, 2008 Great tool that enables me to hang drywall on the ceiling by myself. Also works great on the upper parts of walls. Super fast delivery from this supplier and extremely helpful service; immediately supplying a missing instruction manual.
Wobbly piece of junk! August 15, 2008 I didn't really expect this machine to be amazing....it is only $75.00, but I also didn't expect it to break after one day. While holding a piece of drywall up to my ceiling, the machine's brake broke, and the drywall came crashing down. The cheap welding on the brake broke and there was no quick fix. On top of that, I was disappointed about the breaking mechanism and how wobbly this machine was...If you are looking for high quality then keep looking, if you want a cheap machine for a one time job then this may be ok for you...just don't stand under the drywall while it is in the air.
Back saver June 30, 2008 I wish I would have had one long ago. As I'm not a contractor anymore, I don't have much call to use this, but even if I never use it again it was well worth the $$ for the 25 sheet I had to hang recently.
Works well June 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little bit skeptical that this tool could actually make it possible for one person to hang drywall on a ceiling, but it does work. We have been working with two people, needed in order to place the drywall sheet on the lift (not necessary if you are very strong) and working with 4x8 sheets. It swivels enought to make it easy to properly place the board, and then holds it tight in place until it can be attached. It is easier to crank than I imagined, although it does take some effort to get it up to the 10' ceiling. My husband & I, both 57, have just successfully finished a 12' x 32' room, and are ready to tackle the remainder of our basement. We would not have been able to accomplish this without the help of the drywall lift.
