Sturdy and dependable September 1, 2008 I bought this grinder for use on my job, I'm the Maintenace Supervisor at a multi-use building, and have used it for a wide variety of jobs - everything from simply smoothing out a sticking metal framed door to cutting through rebar when we did some major remodeling.
This grinder is easy to handle, being small and lightweight enough to get into a tight spot yet still has the power for tough jobs. It has a simple on/off switch rather than a dead man switch but I feel that is a plus. I sometimes use this grinder for an extended period and like to shift my grip, I wouldn't be able to do that with a dead man switch. Please don't take this as a criticism of a dead man switch, I highly recommend that type if you are a casual user or inexperienced with power tool use - this grinder could cause serious injury if not used safely and properly.
It does vibrate, but that is common with any grinder, however the vibrations for this grinder seem to be minimized are not that tiring to my hands.
Good grinder, but it ain't wrench free May 13, 2008 This is a great budget grinder. I used it with a diamond wheel to cut out grout on about 40 sf of floor tile. Put it through the wringer at load with lots of dust for a few hours and had no trouble. I've cut several other large pieces of metal, pipes, etc. Works like a charm. Bearings are a bit noisy but it doesn't seem to cause a problem.
I do NOT think this is "wrench free" as DeWalt claims. It includes a wrench and the instructions do not explain how to remove the wheel without a wrench. I don't think it can be done. (Please post and tell me how if it can!) My other complaint is that the instructions are terrible, like all DeWalt instructions. It's so confusing to try to figure out what applies to this model and what does not, what is the right type of wheel, when a separate guard not included might be needed, etc.
Solid as always May 12, 2008 I have had two of these units already and this grinder will last me over a year with no replacement brushes. I use it daily in my fabrication shop and any grinder that can go a year and withstand being dropped and kicked around frequently is a champ - especially at this price. An average user will be able to pass this unit on to a grandchild.
The price is excellent March 28, 2008 This tool is just great to have for around the house and even for heavy duty work. No regrets for buying this tool at all
great Grinder February 25, 2008 Dewalt did it again. If your looking for a small grinder that acts like a big grinder at a super low price, this is it! It is very light and fits your hand perfectly. I highly recomend this grinder.
