Compact, lightweight, fast, and powerful—this Black & Decker impact driver is just right for the ambitious homeowner. Tons of torque (four times the average 12-volt drill) let you drive even huge fasteners, and with 2,600 rpm, it's faster, too. We love the ergonomic feel of the design; the fact that it's significantly lighter than other 12-volters is in its favor, too. Its snub-nose shape lets it fit just about anywhere you need to get into, an advantage over standard drills. Also in the positives column are all the accessories: not one but two 12-volt batteries and a 15-piece hex shank kit. This definitely isn't a tool designed or built for the contractor but it would do well in a do-it-yourselfer's hands.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

4 out of 5 stars Positive Review   February 23, 2006

Wow, that's a lot of power. My 20 amp drill was able to spin it backwards, but this lightweight drill kept up pretty well when I used it to tighten 3/4 bolts.

It can also handle the slower drilling. Just pull the trigger half way. And it was about three or four uses before I figured out how to pull out spring loaded hex coupling to lock in the bit. It is the easiest, quickest "chuck" I have used.

I read several complaints about how noisy it is. It is noisy once the hammers kick in. For low torque jobs, its as quiet as any other drill. But it meets resistance with force. The hammers start pounding and that 3" deck screw is going in pre drilled or not! Har Har Grunt Grunt! Maniacal laughter..

This is a fun home drill that's great for small to med projects, like hanging pictures or installing a deck. Two batteries, a charger, a handful of bits, and a rugged case.

I BOUGHT THIS UNIT WHEN IT FIRST APPEARED AT HOME DEPOT FOR AROUND $30.00 AND ALL MY FRIENDS WANTED ONE WHEN THEY USED IT BUT HOME DEPOT HAD DISCONTINUED IT. NOW ONE BATTERY COSTS MORE THAN I PAID FOR DRILL ,CHARGER AND TWO BATTERIES. I REALLY LIKE THIS BETTER THAN ANY DRILL I HAVE AND I HAVE APP 14 IN USE IN SHOP. WHEN IM BUILDING CABINETS AND PORCH SWINGS ECT. I HAVE TO BE REAL CAREFUL BECAUSE IT WILL STRIP THE HEADS OFF THE SCREWS. I CAN BURY A SCREW IN A 2" BOARD WITH IT WITHOUT ANY STRAIN. LOVE THE DRILL. THANKS

I was supprised to read the other reviews. I have had my B&D impact driver for 6 Months now and I love it. Infact my cordless drill lost its spot in the Peg board because I use the impact driver for almost everything. I have driven up to 1/2" Lag bolts in to Pressure treated 4x4's without problems. When drilling it never twists on you, when it starts to bind up it goes into impact mode and pushes the bit through it. The one key that I found is do not push down on the back of the drill like you are used to, this slows it down. just apply slight pressure to hold the bit into the screw and let the impact do the work.

The power is there if you work on it. The drill will slip a lot causing damage to the drill bits.

The craftman drill has 850 torque but does not slip.

The Black and Decker one is not a good tool to own even for the cheap price.

When I ordered this screw gun I was all stoked on what a great deal I got so I decide to challenge my Brother and his friend to a screwing contest!!!! We lined up his Hitachi 12V and his friends Makita 14V and went to it. We used a chunk of 4X6 and 3" deck screws. First came the speed competition. On the count of 3 we all started screwing. The results: 4-6 seconds for both of them and a whole 25 seconds for the mighty B&D. I was a little bit let down but I thought I could still take them in the stamina competition so we pulled those screws out and started in another spot. My Brother and his friend handily beat me once again on the second screw (even though the Makita had an almost dead battery). I almost had the second screw all the way in when my Brothers friend started yelling at me to stop, I looked down and smoke was flowing out of the vents on the rear of the gun. I stopped before the screw gun caught on fire but I guess you can say the Black and Decker got smoked by the competition.
