4 out of 5 stars Planer Stand   January 12, 2007

First off, the weight of the box justifies the final product. One point of contention, this is not the easiest thing you've ever put together. The directions leave alot to your imagination and intuition. Once together and the height set for your planer the stand works well. Using ten-foot-plus length boards the stand is very stable. The feed is easy and the exit is snipe free. The wheel system rolls great for easy movement in the shop and there is no wandering of the stand during operation even when the wheels aren't locked. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the assembly factor and the cost. It's a great table that I wish I had access to years ago.

4 out of 5 stars Good stand, demanding assembly, experience helpful.   May 24, 2006

Before becoming critical, let me say that the Rousseau Mobile Planer Stand Model 1000 is a good product and one with which I am basically pleased. Some issues with it probably can be attributed to inexperience since this stand is for my first planer.

My problems stem from the assembly instructions in the owner's manual which tended to use 10 words when 30 would have sufficed. In retrospect, studying the picture (a picture being worth a thousand words sort of thing) was at least as informative as the instructions. The advantage was that I got to spread a 2-hr job over 6.5 by having to assemble it twice.

The "recommended tools" layout was complete and good, as was the parts list...except that the description of the parts was limited to two-word descriptions. By carefully examining the picture of the two shelves, you can see that the top shelf has a thick base and a "Rousseau" decal on the left side. The bottom shelf has a thinner base and the company decal on the right side. What you cannot see (and they don't tell you) is that the left and right wings may look alike, but aren't. They are almost identical but you have to arrange them so that the thumb button release on the wing supporting mechanism faces you...but you can't see this either in the parts list or in the picture...and they don't tell you. I found the "Set Up Instructions" poorly worded and skimpy. Step 3 was actually incorrect. The instructions were to install the cross-pieces "using top hole of bottom shelf bracket & bottom hole on top shelf bracket." No way, Jose! The only way mine would fit was to use the third hole of the top shelf bracket. Step 5 was a beauty: "...set top shelf below wings equal to base height of planer wings." What?! Returning to the picture for a moment, they do not tell the buyer that some planer manufacturers do not necessarily set the wings perfectly in line with the base as perhaps suggested in the picture. The wings on my new planer (a Makita) certainly are not. Other makers probably do something similar but this problem was not addressed in the instructions, meaning the new owner must decided whether to align the stand wings with the planer wings or with the planer base. I suppose it is time to call in some experienced planer owners and make the final adjustments.

4 out of 5 stars heavy duty planer stand   November 17, 2005

just got the 1000 planer stand my first impression was positive untill i had to assemble it not really that hard to do but instructions left much to desire very vague and the photos are so small it dosn't help much. after about an hour i had it assembled the only other knock i have with it is the final adjustment you really cant do it with the planer on it since fine adjustment is achieved by loosening the bolts that hold the top shelf in place and if you do this with the planer in place you will have a devil of a time since my planer weighs about 95 lbs.you can't just loosen and lift or drop that little bit you might need so with a lot of patience and measuring i got it adjusted all in all it is by far the most heavy duty planer stand out there and with those wings extened its by far the best

I bought the Rousseau 1000 Mobile Planer Stand and I have to say I highly recomend it. I am ordering another one for my other shop. After reading the reviews on Rousseau products I was sure that I would like the product but was a little hesitant about the installation. Well, I had no problems at all understanding the instructions. The product works well, it is solidly built and best of all when I am not using it the tables fold down and takes up a minimal amount of space. As far as the price, it is worth it. If you want something of quality you have to pay for it.... Don't hesitate, buy it. I wish I would have a long time ago. Now I don't have to lift the planer up anymore and put it on my table saw or workbench. My back will appreciate it.
