5 out of 5 stars Awesome Product When Used Correctly!!!   August 14, 2008

I was a little reluctant to order this model rotozip after reading the only review left which said the product did not work good. Out of curiosity I went ahead and ordered it anyway since I was in the middle of working on a home project and needed to cut various sheets of plywood in different shapes and angles. It came with a universal bit and another bit that I think is meant to cut tiles. I popped in the universal bit and it broke in half on me after a few minutes of use. I got very annoyed and was ready to return it to Amazon but searched on the net and found that there is a special "sabrecut" bit, which should be use used to cut wood. I checked my local hardware store and they had a pack of 5 of these bits for $8.00 so I gave them a shot. Boy am I glad that I didn't send this back to Amazon. With these special wood bits in the rotozip I am able to cut through wood like paper. It does take a little getting used to at first to get a precise cut, but once you get the hang of it you can cut any shape you want out of wood. I have used the same bit for weeks and it is still going strong and has not broken on me like the universal bit did after minutes of use. I'm guessing that the secret to using this product effectively is making sure you have the right bits before starting a project. This item has quickly become my favorite tool to use whenever I do my home and automotive projects.

3 out of 5 stars Not good for plywood.   July 2, 2008

I bought this specifically for cutting out openings in plywood, as it says it will cut through wood. Well, yes it will cut through wood, after lots of effort, but it is nearly impossible to control to any degree. Plus the bit was smoking the whole time I was cutting, and yes I was using the bit that is supposed to be for wood. I think this tool would be OK for drywall, but I really can't think of anything else I'd want to use it for. It spins so fast that it is also something to be afraid of, I'd hate to see what would happen if the bit broke off when trying to make a cut! And the handle is not securely attached to the body, I think it is removable, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the lower part from coming loose when I was pulling it through the plywood, again with an easier to cut material, this would not be an issue.
