5 out of 5 stars Finally have a bit brace!   June 17, 2008

My cordless drill is fine for most projects, but couldn't bore 1-inch holes in solid wood, which is what I needed, so I set out to find a bit brace. Home Depot, Lowe's, etc didn't have any and a Lowe's employee suggested I might find one at a woodworking shop.

Unfortunately, I wasn't sure where to find a woodworking supply store and I figured if I did they'd only have super-expensive ones built for everyday use. I don't intend to use this one regularly, but it's handy to have one in the tool collection so I was thrilled when I saw this one for just over $15 and with free shipping to boot!

It took awhile to arrive with the free shipping option, but it finally came yesterday and I went to work with it. It's not a super-high-quality tool -- if you want one of those you should probably get a $100 bit brace -- but for $15 it's worked better than I'd expected.

I choose the "2-Jaw Chuck" over the similar "4-Jaw Chuck" because I needed it to hold hex-head auger bits (which the DO have at Lowe's).
