5 out of 5 stars Closet rescue   December 2, 2008
We have purchased much smaller place and the attic opening, though large enough, was located in an area that we soon combined with two seperate closets to make one larger one. This, of course, required a smaller opening to accomadate the closet door. So, my search began to find an answer for the stairs up into the attic. When I explored online I followed links that led to this answer. It was easy to install, I can get it down and travel up with ease, and it is all they said it would be. We are very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!   November 25, 2008
This is a great product. I easily installed this ladder with the assistance of my 4 year old daughter in one night after work. It has completely changed the use of space in my attic. I have a small home with very little storage space and this ladder opened up a great deal of options for us.
The instructions have been updated recently to make it even easier to install. I have already recommended this ladder to friends and will continue to do so.

5 out of 5 stars This is a good product   November 11, 2008
The ladder was very easy to install and works perfectly. The door on the other hand was more difficult and was made harder to install and work because we have a funky opening space (which is why we had to get this ladder to begin with). But, overall I would recommend this product to people with odd shaped attic openings or tight spaces, just be prepared to have to fiddle with the door to make it work properly. Also, make sure that you get a thin piece of plywood for the door because the latch hardware was to small to fit the 1st piece of plywood we tried to use.

As noted in the other reviews, the instructions are great and the ladder can be installed quickly. Its very cool and seems to work well, and its a joy to free up a bedroom closet by moving the step ladder out to a shed. But ... the Televator takes up part of the opening, whether open or closed. I may have to remove it from its bracket to get a couple of items out, a job that fortunately should only take a few minutes.

A 300 pound rating might be better for the bigger among us, although it seems very steady for my 155 pound weight.

With the recommended door design, it must be better sealed than your average attic door, since it has a latch. Personally, I don't think that's good enough, since there's no room for insulation. I plan to plug the hole with foam rubber and one could also attach insulation to the underside of the door. If you go either route, you'll probably want to increase the clearance between the bracket and door. Unfortunately, there's next to none if you install the bracket flush to the ceiling, as instructed. You can install it higher if your joists are larger than 4", which I'd recommend. Only catch is that the bottom of the brack has a lip, so you'll have to cut a thin and shallow (quarter inch deep or so) slot in your joist, which makes the job a little harder. If you intend to go this route, don't forget to add your offset to the length of the ladder when choosing whether to get the AA8 or AA10 and in adjusting the ladder during installation.

5 out of 5 stars Great   October 26, 2008
The ladder and door instructions were well written and clear. Contains everything you need but the plywood door. Really was the perfect set up for a small attic opening.
